The holidays are a constant tug-of-war between pretty and practical. Suddenly, heels become treacherous in snow and ice and belts that look great begin to feel not so great... at all.

With Thanksgiving right around the corner, we thought it was about time we conjured a list of our favorite fall outfits that are both fantastically fashionable and crazy comfortable. Take a peek at how we choose to welcome the holidays in style.

skirt & sweater

There is seriously nothing softer in my closet than this sweater. I bought this dusty rose sweater at Goodwill and I love it. I paired it with leggings on the bottom (because what feels better than a sweater and leggings?!) and then stacked a jean skirt on top to make the look a little more formal. I chose to wear black booties to finish off the outfit, but spiffy tennis shoes could look great, too.

sweatshirt and flannel

If you're looking for a more causal choice for your feasting, then look no farther than your favorite sweatshirt. I love layering with my grey sweatshirt, as it is comfy and the outer layer can add a pop of color to the neutral tone. I chose a flannel to give the outfit a fall feel, but feel free to pull on a jean jacket over your sweatshirt to dress it up a bit more. Paired with the layered look is my favorite high-waisted jeans and Doc Marten's.

Jean

Denim on denim screams fall, but let's face it-- jeans can be rough to wear, especially on Thanksgiving. So, how do you get away with wearing a pair without feeling sucked in all day? The answer: high waisted pants. Just like the ones I'm wearing above, high waisted jeans sit above the belly-button and, when sized properly, have enough room for all the turkey a girl could eat. I paired my dark, high waisted jeans with a lighter jeans top (in all hopes to avoid a Brittany Spears / Justin Timberlake 2001 AMA's moment) and added a splash of color with my short, red rain boots. Want a little something more? Add on a scarf or necklace to balance the look.

button up and sweater

Need a more formal outfit? Whenever I need a quick dressy fit, I always go for a t-shirt and long sweater pair. Recently, I've been adding my button ups to the mix and am loving it! I totally dig the maroon and blue to bring some neutral color to the black and white top. I dressed this outfit down a little with some jeans ripped at the knees ("did you pay full price for those?"), and topped it off with my Doc's to complement the black shirt.

cozy cover

My friends and family have dubbed this jacket my 'golden retriever coat', which makes me feel a tad bit like Cruella De Vil-- but it's so cozy! Under, I wore a black and white striped tunic and black leggings with a burst of red down by my feet... gosh, maybe I am Cruella!

plaid shift dress

I've never really been a fan of dresses, but this one is heavenly. The cute black and white plaid with hints of yellow is perfect for the late fall vibe. I paired this with black leggings and mock turtle neck, but white (or maybe even yellow) accents would go just as well with it. Plus, having both the comfort of leggings while having the formal look of a dress? Yes please! I finished the look off with my Doc Marten's again, which go perfectly with this simple outfit.

It's time we end the battle between pretty and practical when it comes to outfits-- especially during the holidays. Fantastically fashionable and crazy comfortable outfits are the perfect choice for enjoying your pumpkin pie in style.
