back to school // thrift store haul

We all know that the season we dread is already in full swing: back to school (dun dun dunnn). It truly seems like the school year has jumped out at us from nowhere. You would think we'd get used to summer always being so short, right?

I find that the best thing to gently ease your mind into school mode is restocking that closet of yours. You might be thinking 'Shopping? Are you crazy? I can't go anywhere without seeing the notebooks and pencils taunting me!', and you're definitely not wrong. But I'm not talking about your average trip to Walmart...

Shopping for clothes for the school year allows yourself to start thinking about the year ahead while doing something unrelated to school itself. Plus, who doesn't like getting some new threads?

Let's take a break from thinking about school and talk about thrifting. It seems that the thrift trend has really taken the country by storm and doesn't quite want to leave. With vintage looks trending and lots of teens looking for quality, unique and cheap clothes, supporting local thrift stores is not only the answer that makes the most sense, but also the answer that helps the environment and your community as well!

So without further ado, let's dive into my thrift store haul!

1 // the vintage button up

Prior to entering the thrift store, I had been seeing the cutest vintage button up looks, so obviously, it was first on my list. The red top offers an oversized feel, while it still looks great untucked.

Believe it or not, the jeans are also thrifted! These are Old Navy Rockstars, which normally go for around $35. I got mine for less than $10!

2 // the "it's not a phase, mom"

Whenever I go shopping, it seems as though imperative to be on the lookout for a piece that will add to my "wanna be punk rock" section of my closet. I did happen to find a few at the thrift store, and although I didn't find an oversized vintage tee, I do happen to have some TobyMac merch that gives the same look.

The thrifted items here are some high waisted button up black skinny jeans and an oversized grey plaid button up to lighten the black a bit.

3 // the classic knit sweater

I could not help but to fall in love with this cozy knit sweater. It happily pairs with jeans or leggings, and offers a sophisticated fall look while keeping you nice and comfortable.

One thing that makes me love the sweater even more is the sleeves. Even though the sweater's length in general isn't oversized, the sleeves give it that relaxing feeling.

They are paired with the Rockstar jeans I mentioned previously.

4 // the bold in black

I've been obsessed with linen shorts lately because of their comfort. They don't hug your legs, and provide enough coverage to still stay modest. The drawstrings and cute colors they come in definitely add to the list.

I paired these linen shorts with a button up because I enjoyed the majorly black shirt, and the little touches of white. It provides a shirt that can pair with a lot and can still add a little flair with the plaid pattern.

The neutral tones of this look are perfect for fall and heading into the school year!

5 // the casual transition

I call this outfit a transition outfit as it is perfect for those cloudy summer days that lead us to fall.

Upon seeing this shirt, I couldn't resist getting it. It say 'explore local' which is something I couldn't agree more to.

The ripped jeans weren't something I was originally looking for, but I thought they would be a good addition as they help transition into the colder months.

6 // the summer night

I'd have to say, these two pieces are in my top three favorites from this haul. The shorts are a nice fit, and have the cutest embroidered lines of color near the side seams. They are great to wear with a neutral top as they add just a splash of color.

This plain grey sweatshirt is honestly the comfiest thing my skin has touched. It requires a lot of will to take it off! A light sweatshirt is essential for those summer nights that get just cool enough for long sleeves.

I hope you've enjoyed seeing my finds from the thrift store! Whether for fun with friends or to seek out that special piece to pull an outfit together, thrifting allows you to get great clothes for cheap, and allows you to give back at the same time. We all know getting back in the mindset of school is challenging, but a little shopping just may make jumping back into the swing of things a little easier.
