sticky styles // music festival

One of my absolute, without a doubt, most favorite parts of the summer is a three day Christian music festival in my area. If I squeeze my eyes shut, I can perfectly imagine the clouds of gravely dust tinted with beaming neon lights filled with stunning music, all wrapped up in the smell of fried food meshed with sweaty bodies. That’s right-- the festival always seems to fall on the hottest week of the year. So how do you look cute and manage the buzzing, hot sun?
In this sticky styles, I’ll show three ways I beat the heat-- ALL. DAY. LONG.
day one: jumping jumpsuits, batman!

Once upon a time, I thought jumpsuits were strange, impractical and ugly… and then I put one on. Long story short, I fell in love with the obscurity of the jumpsuit and found them rather practical and cute. My rant on jumpsuits could go on for a while, so I’ll cut it short: jumpsuits provide a loose fitting statement piece that are perfect for summer events (and the best part is, most have pockets!). The loose fit of my jumpsuit kept me cool all day, while the pant legs were long enough to keep there from being any ‘whoopsies’ with the wind (which, trust me, aren’t fun).
day two: blue hue, new you

A classic combination, this summer style keeps you cool from head to toe. Specifically, I’m a huge fan of baseball hats due to their ability to finish off an outfit and provide practical properties (shaded eyes are important for long days outside). Personally, I tied this look together with two of what I call a bubble braids, as I find I prefer a symmetrical hairstyle balanced on top with the hat. With its wash of blue and grey, this style screams of summer skies and dusty dusks.
day three: back in black

Here, I decided to dress for the occasion. Who can resist a rocker look when Skillet is playing? I paired a black , vintage looking tee shirt (I pinned up the sleeves, as black gets hot, hot, hot) with a jean skirt and black booties. I found this skirt buried in my dresser and cut it to the length I wanted, but the same look can be achieved with a thrifted skirt. Not only is this cheaper, but you, personally, get to pick where to cut the skirt so that it is the right length for your body. I chose to mix and match silver jewelry on my ears, adding a little bit of shine to glisten in the light of the pyrotechnics.
Music festivals can be a tempting time... but you don't need to show your belly button or butt cheeks in order to achieve a fun, unique, not-too-hot summer look. As always, I wish you luck as you dress for the messy and the meltdown. With these tricks, you too can conquer the icky, sticky styles.
