songs of the season // summer '19

The season of summer has arrived and with it an overflowing list of fun activities you've been looking forward to since January. Trust me, I was itching for summer since the second week of April.

What better way to celebrate the warm sunshine than a playlist loaded with your favorites?

Honestly, there are some songs that I can't have summer without, so without further ado, here are my 10 must have summer songs for the 2019 season:

1 // Sucker / Jonas Brothers

The Jonas Brothers have come back, and, quite honestly, no one was less then pumped. Even though the song came out in March, it seems everyone has been holding their breath to dance to all summer long. This sweet, almost acoustic sounding, bouncy tune is my summer 2019 anthem.

2 // Brown Eyed Girl / Van Morrison

This song was introduced to me by my parents, as my dad would sing (out of tune) to his brown eyed girl. It has been a favorite ever since. With its peppy beat and recognizable lyrics, this '60s hit scores in the top three for summer spirit.

3 // Here Comes the Sun / The Beatles

If there's any song that reminds me of lazy summer days, it's this one. The soft sweetness of The Beatles provides amazing background music to tap your foot to while going on a walk, hanging with friends, making s'mores at a fire, or even just laying out in the sun. I adore this song because of its simple melody with lures you to sing or play along.

4 // I Want You Back / The Jackson 5

Along with being a bop, the song 'I Want You Back' launched Michael Jackson's career and also rose to #1 in the US top tracks at the time. Talk about a memorable song. This song provides easy lyrics fit for anyone to sing along with, but beware the deadly high notes.

5 // Shotgun / George Ezra

I don't know about you, but George Ezra's deep melodious voice could sing to me all day, and I wouldn't be all too annoyed with it. Along with his other hit song, Budapest, Ezra provides a light-hearted song perfect for the sunny months, and especially perfect for summer joyrides.

6 // Riptide / Vance Joy

Along with being a fun song to sing along with, Riptide is also incredibly fun to play on the ukulele. The acoustic song -- a rare sound in modern day music -- provides a simple tune to be in the background of all your summer activities. Perfect for summer afternoons at the beach or pool, the catchy chorus will have you humming at the very least.

7 // Don't Stop Me Now / Queen

This song's lyrics scream summer. Having a good time, feeling alive, leaping through the sky... all of these phrases describe a perfect summer. Not only that, but the quick beat and guitar solos really make this song what it is. Nothing less could be expected from Queen.

8 // Mamma Mia / Meryl Streep

Honestly, I should've wrote the whole Mamma Mia Soundtrack as #8. I don't know if you have a valid opinion on anything if you don't enjoy at the very least one song from the musical. Of course, I chose the theme song to represent the soundtrack, as it brings a ton of energy to anywhere it plays.

9 // Another Day of Sun / Cast of La La Land

Talking about summer movies, La La Land definitely is one to watch projected on a screen during a starry summer night. The opening song, Another Day of Sun, brings another peppy beat to this list, along with outstanding choreography. Honestly, you have to check it out.

10 // Legend / Twenty One Pilots

The duo's musical talent is displayed in all of their songs, and this one is no different. Great played straight from the recording or acoustically on the ukulele, Legend is a chill tune, great for just about anything on your summer schedule.
